Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences participated at the 2023 edition of the Zimbabwe Career Guidance Expo that was held at SIRDC from the 25th of May 2023 to the 26 of May 2023 in Hatcliffe, Harare.
MSUAS exhibited at the two-day event with the highlight of the exposition led by the exclusive tour of the University Stand by the Honourable Vice President, Dr, Constantino Chiwenga
Vice president expressed profound concern in the products that were being exhibited on the show, predominantly the activities and programmes on offer at Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences.
The expo was composed of several institutions of higher learning, industrialists and high school students from all over Zimbabwe in a showcase of the diverse career opportunities that are accessible in the country and beyond.
Additionally, the Career Guidance Expo has brought together students, academia, researchers, industry and commerce on a collective platform to evaluate benefits, expertise, standards and link them to future career prospects.

The Chairman of Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences Council, Dr Blessing Mudavanhu, Vice Chancellor, Professor Albert Chawanda, University Council, Senate, Staff and Students join the rest of the nation in celebrating 43years of Independence.
Since our nation is moving towards a prosperous and empowered middle-income economy by 2030 and our continued pursuit of Education 5.0, Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences remain mindful of great sacrifices that were made by the Gallant Sons and Daughters of the nation, who paid ultimate efforts in bringing peace and tranquillity that we enjoy today.
To the people of Zimbabwe, on this historic and illustrious celebration we say;
All roads led to Manicaland provincial capital, Mutare as Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) hosted the biggest sporting event on the universities’ calendar.
Running under the theme ‘Building strengthened student communities against alcohol and substance abuse through sport’, the 2023 Cluster 1 games of the Zimbabwe Universities Sports Association (ZUSA) brought together fourteen universities including the host Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences, for two days of fierce competition.
Athletes competed in various sports disciplines, among them soccer, table tennis, darts, chess and pool.
The tournament saw various staff officials from universities in Zimbabwe gracing the event including Professor Victor Ngonidzashe Muzvidziwa, the Vice Chancellor for Midlands State University as the Guest of Honor.
In his introductory remarks on the official opening of 2023 ZUSA games, Professor Albert Chawanda the Vice Chancellor at Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) expressed his gratitude towards students and individuals for gracing the magnificent tournament as well as for hosting the biggest sporting event for Universities in Zimbabwe at MSUAS .
“It is indeed a great pleasure and delight to host the ZUSA games for the year 2023. I would like to thank Professor Muzvidziwa who is also the patron of ZUSA for gracing this occasion as well as allowing our university to host such an outstanding occasion. I am happy to see everyone blooming in the spirit of sports”, said Professor Chawanda”.
Speaking at the games as guest of honor, Professor Victor Ngonidzashe Muzvidziwa revealed that the main theme of the tournament is crucial in addressing issues pertaining to drug and substance abuse among youths in line with the government’s thrust on curbing drug and substance abuse. He informed participants that Zimbabwe and other African countries were facing the scourge of drug consumption among young adults. Prof Muzvidziwa in his official opening speech reiterated that “I believe that sporting activities such as that of ZUSA are a complete reflection of good leadership which is sought to curtail the use of alcohol, drugs and other dangerous substances in various students’ communities across the nation. As universities lets continue to utilize these competitions since they assist us to create a more conducive environment that is free from immoral activities”.
ZUSA games are meant to enhance the educational experience of university students through sports competitions of excellence and to provide top students with greater sporting opportunities.
Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences added yet another accolade to its glittering list of awards after it was adjudged “The Outstanding Training Instituition of the year 2022 Platinum Winner” at the Megafest Eastern Region Awards ceremony that was held at Golden Peacock Hotel, in Mutare on Friday, 24 February 2023.
The award is an esteemed recognition of the university’s purposeful contributions to human capital development in Zimbabwe and abroad saw the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Albert Chawanda together with the Director Marketing, Information and Public Relations, Mrs Shingayirayi Moyo also scooped the Gold Award for the Strategic Leader of the Year 2022 Category and Platinum Award for the Director of the Year 2022 Category respectively.
Speaking on behalf of the institution, Professor Chawanda said;
“The recognition is a product of hard work and team work and; is another reminder to ourselves as team MSUAS that we are winners and great success lies ahead. Let us re-dedicate ourselves to duty as we strategically position MSUAS for future.”
The MegaFest Awards are held annually in honour of individuals and organisations who excelled and have been resilient in a turbulent business environment for the past year.
In in its quest to operationalize Education 5.0, the Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Zimtrade, the national trade development and promotion organization of Zimbabwe, on Wednesday the 24th of November 2022 at MSUAS main campus.
Among the areas which the two organisations agreed to partner on were; engaging students and staff in research activities that facilitate international trade development, identifying and facilitating financial support for undergraduate, Masters and doctoral students on research projects that enhance export trade, developing and sustaining innovation hubs and the agro-innovation industrial park.
“The MOU signing is part of our endeavour to bring Education 5.0 to fruition. The aim is to develop patentable innovations which enhance trade and ultimately develop our country. The University is committed to bringing new knowledge and innovation in the already existing socio-economic activities so that communities beneficiate and value-add on their products,” said the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Albert Chawanda during the signing ceremony.
In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of Zimtrade, Mr A Majuru reiterated the organisations’ commitment to foster evidence-based programming as they promote international trade.
“Our aim is to restore the yester-year global trade position and to achieve this, evidence-based programming is key. MSUAS comes in handy as an arm with the organic intellectual prowess which will drive our operations. We look forward to increasing the gross domestic product of Manicaland Province through value-addition on agricultural and service products obtainable in the province,” said Mr Majuru.
The signing ceremony came at a time the University is developing and capacitating its Agro-Innovation Industrial Park located at Headlands, Rusape with a focus on producing crops such as tobacco, wheat, proteas flowers and pecan nuts for the export market in the European Union and Asia.
The ceremony was attended by senior officials from Zimtrade and the University, among them Executive Deans and Departmental Chairpersons.
The UNESCO supported O3 PLUS Project in partnership with Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences (MSUAS) has made significant impact in building empowered university student community on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR). The Project which seeks to ensure that young people in higher and tertiary education institutions (HTEIs) realize positive health, education, and gender equality outcomes, is running under the theme, “Our Rights, Our Lives, Our Future Plus.”
Speaking on the project, the MSUAS Executive Dean of Students, Mr I Chaka said, “O3 Plus project aims at ensuring sustained reductions in new HIV infections, unintended pregnancy and sexual and gender-based violence. Sexual reproductive health education is integral to students as part of outside classroom learning education as we strive to build a resilient, empowered and responsible student community.”
“The objective of the project is to realize sustainable institutional strengthening, student health and well-being, create safe and inclusive campus environments and building evidence based programming and empowered knowledge sharing communities,” said Ms N Majekwana, the Project Coordinator.
Among the activities that the project has done are conducting capacity building workshops for lecturers and peer educators, facilitating engaging and purposeful student orientation programme, conducting health and wellness expos, creating coordination platforms with other SRHR partners to identify gaps in SRHR services for young people in HTEIs and proffer possible collective solutions and opportunities in addressing issues affecting students.
Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences in partnership with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Science, Innovation and Technology Development have developed a cutting-edge Agro-Innovation Industrial Park at the MSUAS Headlands farm.
The Agro-Innovation Industrial Park, is an initiative poised to create self-sustenance and operationalize Education 5.0 and is being driven by the Department of Agricultural Economics and Development. The initiative will see the production of innovative and industry-relevant graduates with a very rich practical approach to agriculture.
Commenting on the project, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Albert Chawanda said, “The project is a cutting-edge innovation meant to assist the University with income augmentation as we aim towards self-sufficiency. Furthermore and principally, the project is a pragmatic operationalization of the Ministry’s Heritage-Based Education 5.0 which endeavours to create fruitful and patentable innovations which will drive the industry.”
Looking ahead, the project seeks to set up an abattoir, food canning and processing plant, stock feed manufacturing plant and a milling plant with the aim to produce for the domestic and export market in the European Union and Asia. Currently, the Agro-Innovation Industrial Park is preparing to put under cultivation 100 hectares of maize, 40 hectares of tobacco and 100 hectares of wheat which is a great upscale from the production of last season of 60 hectares of maize, 15 hectares of tobacco and 9 hectares of wheat.
The partnership with the Ministry, has seen massive equipping and modernisation of the farm which has seen the procurement of a tractor, centre irrigation pivots, boom sprayers, planters, disc harrows among many other equipment bought.
The Chairman of Manicaland State University of Applied Sciences Council, Dr Blessing Mudavanhu, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Albert Chawanda, University Council, Senate, Staff and Students, wish to express their heartfelt condolences to the Murapa family and the entire nation on the untimely passing of veteran educationist par excellence, Professor Rukudzo Murapa.
His forthright, astute and visionary contributions during his time as the Chairman of MSUAS Council will forever be written in the successful higher and tertiary education story of Zimbabwe, Africa and beyond. An academic giant, self-starter and wisdom doyen who judiciously and selflessly applied himself beyond measure.
We pray that the Murapa family find solace in the fact that they are not alone during this difficult time, but that their loss is deeply shared by the entire MSUAS community
